To What Extent...

To What Extent...

To what extent can it be said that CP TOK II is what IB intended for it to be?

I found myself wondering about this a little bit the other day/night. I guess I don't really know what the course is supposed to entail, but I feel like the class has been pushed to the blog and we have become CIS English. I do enjoy the writing instruction, but I guess I just wonder about the material. I try not to ramble, so I'll stop now.

Thoughts?

P.S. Does anybody agree with me that TOK II should be moved to second trimester? I make this argument due to college apps, history IA, etc. Thoughts on this welcomed too.

  1. We always are talking about ethics and ways of knowing in this class, so that part is established. But yes, I miss TOK 1 very much. I do like that we are being helped write the EE. Nevertheless, the other three papers are simply copied from CIS Composition class. I also understand these are meant to be to help us write for college, but they are a bit more than I would prefer.

  2. I have to disagree. I like TOK2 much better than TOK1. I felt like TOK1 was a waste of time, we really only had one important assignment (the final essay) and though the conversation was interesting, I felt like we could have been improving skills in other areas instead. I really like the writing piece of TOK2, I feel like I have already improved a lot. Also, as seen in our personal narrative scores, our class needed help with writing effectively and correctly. I do think Christian is right, if possible, TOK2 should be moved to second tri. This tri is absolutely insane with having to add the stress of college apps onto our enormous work load. With history and TOK2, I often find myself staying up until the wee hours of the next morning.Though TOK2 is adding a lot of stress and work to my life, in the end I do appreciate it very much. Also, I think Ms. Mork is a fantab teacher.

  3. While we do talk about ethics and the way of knowing in the class, I feel like it is less extensive then TOK1. I enjoyed TOK1 more then TOK2 because I enjoyed discussing topics rather then going to class just to write. I agree with Dube, that I as well feel like we are in CIS rather then TOK. When we heard about the class last year, I was under the impression that the class was mostly meant for us to fully understand how to write our EE and have ample amount of in class work time so we could ask questions. I don't mind the other papers but I feel like it took a lot of time away from really comprehending the EE. I feel like it would've been better to have one day a week or every other week to allow us work time on our EE and to find more research in class rather then having to do it all in one day and then only focusing on the EE for three weeks rather then throughout the course.
